A Spa Experience Spa Matilda, San Miguel De Allende
In a town named #1 in the world by Conde Nast, you’d expect to find world-class spas; and the Spa at Hotel Matilda does not disappoint. As you walk down the cobble-stoned streets of San Miguel de Allende from the center of town and the fabled gothic pink Parroquia church, the town’s crown jewel, you might imagine you’re in 19th century colonial Mexico, but when you enter the slate green lobby of the Hotel Matilda, you’ll know you’re in the 21st century. The hotel is stylish, trendy, and very modern and the spa downstairs continues the hip minimalistic style of the hotel.
The Spa at Hotel Matilda is a 4700-sq. foot haven with 4 treatment rooms, a private hammam (Turkish wet bath), two couple’s suites, and indoor and outdoor lounges, all with a sleek upscale and modern ambience. There are sitting areas for pre- and post-treatment quiet time including two patios and an indoor/outdoor Relaxation Lounge with a fireplace. The fitness facility features cardio- and strength- training equipment, and a studio for personal training, stretching and functional movement.
The spa is led by the charming and knowledgeable Spa Director, Ledia Camara, who comes to Hotel Matilda from Mexico’s Riviera Maya where she was director of the Aroma Spa at Esencia. Ledia has worked as a trainer and spa consultant for Hotel Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende, spa manager of the Portal Vista Hotel in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and therapist and supervisor at Kinan Spa at Maroma Resort in the Riviera Maya. She earned a degree in Hotel Management at Estudios Superiores en Hotelería Euro América
(ESHEA), the tourism and gastronomy university in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
Ledia’s particular passion is aromatherapy, especially the essences and oils prepared from the plants and flowers indigenous to Mexico. The Spa has its own apothecary filled with a beautiful array of oils, powders, herbs and potions that enable the guest to choose a customized treatment and work with the therapist to create and blend hand-made, natural beauty and skincare products personalized especially for the guest. Ledia has big plans for the apothecary where, in conjunction with the ApotheCARY line of ingredients, she will be teaching classes on body and skincare products and holding parties where guests can experiment with ingredients like local lavender grown at the hotel or mint, ginger, juniper and vanilla to make their own blends.
The apothecary experience is only one of the signature treatments of the Matilda Spa. The Royal Hammam treatment, based on the Turkish ritual bath, is a treatment fit for a queen or sultan which combines a luxurious and soothing steam, aromatic scents, and oil and clay scrubs with a full-body massage
using oils and aromatic
exotic herbs
to leave the body feeling relaxed,
reinvigorated,
and ready for a day of exploration or a night of culture and entertainment in San Miguel.
