David Lermon,ICAEW director forWales, said: “We need to continue to push to grow our exports, against a backdrop of a widening trade deficit, at the same time as ensuring that the momentum the UKeconomy has is main- tained across all parts of the country. “If the forecast figures

Domestic sales are pro- jected to rise by 5.3 per cent over the coming 12 months, up from 2.9 per cent over the past year. Meanwhile, export
growth is expected to pick up to 4.5 per cent over the next year, a marked increase from 1.6 per cent growth over the past 12 months.
Newdirectors INDEPENDENTcontract caterer, Wilson Vale, has expanded its board of directors by appointing Claire Long as sales direc- tor.
Claire, from Raglan in Monmouthshire, joined the Leicestershire-based company to become the fifth member of the board. Her appointment comes
just nine months after Wilson Vale appointed Alan Beddie as operations director. Before joining Wilson
Vale, Claire was strategic partnership director with Compass GroupUKand Ireland for over six years, duringwhich time she handled a portfolio of top 300 clients within the busi- ness and industry sector.

BASSALEG School worked in partnership with local businesses to engage its students and help plug the growing skills gap with its first industry careers fair. The event, supported by the ESTnet, was an opportunity for businesses in the local area to showthe school, its students and parentswhat Newport and SouthWales has to offer. Historically, the school has
had limited interaction with businesses and other com- mercial organisations in SouthWales, this was the first event linked specifically with business. Many areas of the diverse electronics and software technologies industry were present, representatives from companies including Axiom Manufacturing, SPTS, General Dynamics, Ernst&Young, Siemens, Celtic Manor,Wynne Jones, Harding Evans and Barclays attended the half-day event. Atotal of 249 students in
Year 9 attended the event along with parents. The stu- dents, aged between 13 and 14, were able to speak to young graduates, apprentices and business leaders to gain a first-hand account of each organisation, and learn of
