For fruit growers requiring digital documentation such as Certificates of Origin for shipments to Asia and other points, the Greater Vernon Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with Trade Technologies to handle e-mail requests within hours, reports George Duffy, chamber general manager. The service is available for members or non- members. A notarized waiver letter is held on file at the chamber office, he explained. The digital service saves a drive in to town from the farm and is often less costly than taking other routes, he noted... Okanagan Crush Pad’s Christine Coletta is now a member of the B.C. Restaurant Hall of Fame. She was among 11 inductees at September’s B.C. Restaurant and Foodservice Gala, honored in the 'Friend of the Industry' category as an individual who has provided exceptional support to the restaurant industry. Although her name is associated primarily with the province’s wine industry, Coletta’s career started in hospitality and she spent several years working in restaurant and hotel management roles. From there, she formed her own consulting firm and worked on several provincial and federal government initiatives, including the ‘Serving it Right’ training program. She was executive director of the B.C. Wine Institute for nine years and was instrumental in defining Okanagan wine country, putting VQA wines on the map and convincing B.C. restaurateurs to carry B.C. wines. She reinvented herself as co-owner of Summerland's Okanagan Crush Pad, a custom winemaking facility that is home to the Haywire and Bartier Scholefield labels, as well as wines made for other vintners...
