“We love to fish and it shows!”

Behind closed doors… I popped by to see long-time car guy, Keith Summers, at his

home and garage recently. All his life, Keith’s favourite hobby has been re-building old

cars. In the early years he used to rebuild all makes and models, but over the years he had difficulty getting parts from different manufacturers. His best selection was Ford, so he became a Ford parts distributor. Nothing too unusual about that. And when you arrive in front of his double-car

garage, all seems quite normal. Until, that is. Until you open the doors. I walked into the garage and squeezed between

two beautiful 1940 Fords. One was a beautiful white convertible and the other an amazing 1940 Red Coupe being re-built. Keith retired many years ago from

the fire department. This allowed him to spend his days doing what he loves to do best, whether rebuilding an old car or supplying Ford parts for Ford cars from 1930 to 1965. His parts store is attached to his workshop. All this in a double car garage attached

to his home in a beautiful quiet residential home in Ottawa.

MS BASSIN CHARITY TOURNAMENT

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, chronic, and often disabling the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the myelin (sheath) that protects the body’s nerves, causing inflammation or destroying the myelin in patches. The result is poor communication–or no communication at all–between the brain and parts of the body. MS is a disease that is usually diagnosed between the ages of 15 and 40, during the career-and family-building

years but has been diagnosed in children as young as 3. The MS Society estimates that there are between 55,000 and 75,000 Canadians living with this unpredictable disease, with approximately 15,000 individuals affected in the Ottawa are.

gigging, Hugh discovered bodybuilding in the 70s, and was crowned the runner-up Mr. Canada a couple of times. He also used his muscles as a bouncer at the Aylmer clubs between sets. He stills does, if you ask him nicely. Today Hughie Scott is 72, but

he might as well be 32. He still gigs regularly, mostly for charitable causes, and still works out on a regular basis. His love for the music is undiminished, as is his infectious joy in talking about his life and his passion for performing. As we celebrate the story of

Ottawa Rock and Roll in Bounder over these next few issues, we have to honour Hughie Scott. After all, in his words: “I was

the one who started the whole Shebang”.
