monitoring wildlife activity and movement. After taking literally hundreds of thousands of wildlife images over the years, and setting up wildlife surveillance in a variety of situations, I have picked up a few tricks along the way. Regardless of which model trail cam you choose and where it’s located, there are certain aspects to keep in mind during setup afield. Whether you use 2 MB, 4 MB or 16 MB memory cards, you’ll find that certain brands work better in your unit than ours. Once you’ve found a good compatible SD card, stick with it. Also, when switching out cards, be sure to reformat every time you make a change. The most disappointing thing is pulling a memory card expecting dozens of great wild game shots, only to discover the dreaded SD card error. Also, you should remember to take a couple of test shots when setting up a new camera location. Bring your kids along as they make the perfect-sized test subjects for your practice images. Happy trail-camming and don’t be too distraught when raccoons make up the bulk of your image library. You’ll get used to it. Until next time, wishing you all the best in the Great Outdoors!
