Earth Meets the Stars at Neuberger Museum on May 5

As part of the First Family Saturdays series, Neuberger Museum of Art at Purchase College presents Earth Meets the Stars, a workshop that encourages families to explore the cosmos, plant life and animal kingdom.

Families will explore the Visionary Sugar: Works by Kiki Smith exhibition (closing May 6), particularly its metallic relief birds, and children will be led in creating their own versions of these birds with watercolor and paper. With the help of their families, children will improvise dance motions that interpret a bird’s movements. Purchase College student musicians will provide accompanying music. The workshop takes place on May 5 from 1 − 4pm. There will be free admission for all from 12 − 5pm, guided tours from 1 – 3pm, and a workshop from 1 – 4pm. For information, call 914-251-6100 or visit: www.neuberger.org.

The Secret Garden, the charming classic children’s novel, was reinvented as a playful musical that creates an enchanting world for the whole family. This delightful tale of a young orphan girl who discovers an enchanted garden of magic and dreams will be presented by White Plains Performing Art Center (WPPAC) from May 11 through May 20.

Families can discover the mystery and intrigue of The Secret Garden on Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm or Sundays at 2pm. To purchase tickets, visit: www. wppac.com or call 914-328-1600.

Family ArtsBash on May 19

On Saturday, May 19, the day following its ArtsBash event, families and children of all ages are invited to participate in a free day of fun at ArtsWestchester. Guests will participate in a variety of hands-on activities and artist-led workshops in an outdoor tent, including face painting, clown theater, visual arts workshops and cookie decorating with the pastry team from event sponsor Ritz-Carlton of Westchester. Families are encouraged to explore the engaging Sculpture: On and Off the Wall exhibition, featuring 20 local artists, in the main floor gallery. Children can also enjoy an interactive StickerMania game while touring ArtsWestchester’s resident artist studios throughout the 9-floor building, enjoy sweet treats and win prizes. The May 19 event takes place between 12-5pm. For information, contact: 914-428-4220 x326 or visit: www.artsw.org/ familyartsbash.

Pelham Art Center’s Glowtown Art Workshop on May 6 will allow childrens' imaginations to run wild. During an afternoon of fun that develops individual creativity and teamwork, children will build a “Glowtown” from everyday common items and, best of all, glow-in-the-dark paint. The town will be transformed into a magical world of glowing wonder when the lights are turned off.

The art-making workshop is featured in conjunction with the center’s Light Matter (opening May 4), an exhibition that explores light. The free event has limited capacity and registration (ages 6 and up) is required: 914-738-2525 or info@pelhamartcenter.org. For more information, visit: www.pelhamartcenter.org.
