In the past, Seoul’s overall design was what one might characterize as “hard”—centered on a para- digm of efficiency. Today this is changing. Encouraged by Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s belief that “design is everything,” Seoul is currently transforming itself into a “soft city” where culture and design play equally pivotal roles in its identity.


Oh Se-hoon had declared, “Design is a growth driver of the Seoul economy. We have surprised the world with the Miracle of the Han River and advancements in the IT sector. Now we would like to bring global attention to Seoul with strong design.”
