U.S. Men’s Select Team has plenty of local flavor
T
hree players who followers of California hockey should re- member fondly - Noah Clarke (La Verne), Ryan Lasch (Lake For- est) and Brian Salcido (Hermosa Beach) - have been picked for the 2011 U.S. Men’s Select Team that will compete at the Deutschland Cup in Munich, Germany, this month.
Clarke, who will represent Team USA for the second time in the event, won’t have to travel far for the tournament. He currently plays for Munich in Germany’s elite league.
Salcido, who like Clarke played at Colorado College, and Lasch, who played for St. Cloud State, are playing in Finland this season.
Clarke and Salcido also hold the distinction of being the first California natives to make their NHL debuts for the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks, re- spectively.
Clarke, a ninth-round pick of the Kings in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, began his NHL career with the Kings in December of 2003 and played 20 games for the fran- chise over three seasons.
Salcido, a fifth-round selection by the Ducks in 2005, played two games for Anaheim in February of 2009.
Lasch was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2008 and stands as St. Cloud’s all-time leader in points (183) and games (161).

he LA Selects’ Pee Wee AAA team nearly won its division at the prestigious Warrior AAA In- vitational Tournament in Detroit last month.

The Selects’ run includ- ed sweeping three pool-play games by a combined score of 12-6, then defeating the New Jersey Colo- nials, 5-3, in the quarterfinals and the Toronto Marlboros, 5-2, in the semifinals.

Pankowski will celebrate her 17th birthday this month at the Hamden, Conn., training camp for the U.S. Four Nations Cup team. The former Anaheim Lady Duck is a junior at the North American Hockey Academy in Vermont. Last season, she had 94 points in 86 games.
