October 29 @ 8pm Evnin Rising Stars I October 30 @ 4pm Evnin Rising Stars II

Named for longtime Caramoor President Judy Evnin, the Evnin Rising Stars Program is led by Artistic Director Pamela Frank. She searches for young musicians with the talent, personality, and musicality to benefit most fully from this program. Ms. Frank then places them in ensembles for an intense week of rehearsals and coaching sessions, culminating in two exciting public performances of masterpieces of the chamber music literature. Ms. Frank is assisted by Distinguished Artists: Kim Kashkashian and Peter Wiley, who mentor, coach, and perform with these young musicians, helping to shape the next generation of collaborative music-making.

October 30 @ 3pm A Chinese Harvest Moon Celebration

Chinese and Western musical instruments reverberate together at Merestead when the award-winning Music from China ensemble joins forces with Music from Copland House for A Harvest Moon Celebration. Inspired by the profoundly transformative phenomenon of Chinese immigration, especially over the past two generations, the program explores the ties and tensions that emerge from the melding of Eastern and Western language, philosophy, attitudes, and mythology. Highlighted by the world premiere of the widely-acclaimed Derek Bermel’s Dragon Blue – Copland House’s commission – the concert also features music by Bright Sheng, Huang Ruo, 2011 Putlizer Prize-winner Zhou Long, and Lou Harrison.

October 16 @ 3pm Yuja Wang

Twenty-three-year-old Chinese pianist Yuja Wang is widely anticipated to be the next big classical music star. Regularly lauded for her controlled, prodigious technique, Wang’s command of the piano has been described as “astounding” and “superhuman.” Come hear her at Purchase four days before her New York City recital debut at Carnegie Hall. The San Francisco Chronicle says, "The arrival of Chinese-born pianist Yuja Wang on the musical scene is an exhilarating and unnerving development. To listen to her in action is to re-examine whatever assumptions you may have had about how well the piano can actually be played.”
