Walk to End Alzheimer’s S
ince 2000, The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society has participated in the
Alzheimer’s Association Annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Staff members have walked, raised money and donated to the event to raise awareness of and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
This year, the Good Samaritan Society is taking a more active role in the 22nd annual event as a corporate sponsor.
“We have a lot more freedom to raise awareness and funds,” says Michelle Kutner, a specialty service consultant for the Society who is coordinating the sponsorship.
In 2010, the Society’s corporate team raised nearly $4,000. The team is made up of staff members from the Society’s National Campus in Sioux Falls, S.D., and Good Samaritan Society communities in Sioux Falls. Proceeds from the walk are used to support a wide range of Alzheimer’s programs for the thousands of families and caregivers affected by the disease in southeast South Dakota. The 24/7 Helpline, Safe Return, educational classes, care consultation and support groups are some of the services made possible through these funds.
In 2008, the South Dakota chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association presented the Society with a certificate of achievement for being the top corporate team.
Alzheimer’s disease is currently the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death, and it affects approximately 19,000 people in South Dakota.
The 2011 was Sept. 17 at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls. To learn more about this event and how to become involved, visit
