London Edition
In November 2010, Marriott International announced that it had acquired the his- toric Berners Hotel in London’s Fitzrovia and planned to redevelop it into an Edition hotel. The funky Edition brand was conceived by Ian Schrager in part- nership with Marriott International, with the fi rst opening in Hawaii late last year. “It’s a perfect property for an Edition hotel in London,” said Arne Sorenson, Marriott International’s president and COO. “With its great location and beau- tiful façade, the building is a perfect canvass for creating a true work of art." Renovation of the former Berners Hotel is set to take up to 24 months.
The Bulgari Hotel
Bulgari Hotels and Resorts signed an agreement in February for The Bulgari Hotel in Knightsbridge, due to open in spring 2012. It’s the third hotel for Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, following the launch of the Bulgari Hotel in Milan in 2004 and the Bulgari Resort in Bali in 2006. It will feature 85 rooms, a restaurant and bar, a 2,000sq m spa and fi tness centre with a 25m pool, a ballroom and a private cinema. Silver will be used as the central theme for the design, according to Bulgari. ●
