SWITZERLAND JOHN SWITZER

Try this, gentlemen of the back roads

Now, being used to a truck -- that is

to say a “beater” with non matching body parts -- I knew that a tour in the Beamer would not be shabby. Also, it might rain, so why get an Alpha wet and muddy on the back roads? AHHHH. The back roads lay before

us, if only for a couple of hours in which we had complete freedom snatched from our busy lives. On tour, the only real concerns are

which direction to point the car in, what music to listen to, and the task of always maintaining a lookout for coffee, yard sales and anything remotely interesting. Who knew where we would go, who we would meet, what we would see, and what new adventures could be awaiting us?

kind of music do ya wanna hear?” This was coming from Dave Semel, exec. member of the Ottawa Chapter of the Alpharomeo Club, as he screamed to a halt in his shiny new BMW. This immediately begged the

question: why wasn’t he in one of his Alpha Romeos? The answer to this most pressing

query was Santana, followed by the WHO, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and other great “shit kicking music” -- because a road trip has gotta have tunes that rock.

road with lots of bridges, and headed towards “The ‘Prior”. Next we flew along the Ottawa River on old No. 1 through Sand Point past “The ‘Frew” to No. 4 with more great vistas to enjoy. We zipped past the big bunny on

Storyland road, past the Orange Lodge in Forester’s Falls to Cobden, then left at the chip pit and onto No. 8. Finally we roared by the access to

the Bonnechere, with our tunes blaring and the sun shining, to the mighty megalopolis of Eganville. Gentlemen of the back roads, you

would not be remiss in considering a tour via this route with its views of the Gatineau Hills, the tree-and-field-covered
