37,000 Attend Metro Youth Day; Event Not All Fun and Games
320 Organizations Participate in Youth Day The 28th annual Metro Detroit Youth Day held in July
on Belle Isle attracted 37,000 youngsters and 1,600 vol- unteers making it the largest turnout for youngsters in the State. There were more than 20 venues for the youngsters to
participate in, such as clinics in baseball, basketball, football, martial arts, golf, tennis, boxing, etc. “In the beginning, Youth Day started with games and
contests,” said Ed Deeb, co-founder of the event. “No longer is Metro Youth Day simply fun and games,” he continued. “We give out numerous scholarships, and we honor students for academic achievement and commu- nity service, we provide mentors, role models and en- courage the disabled and handicapped to participate.” Deeb added the committee wants to inspire our youth to do the most good.
