27, 1921 in Cof- feeville, Miss.. In 1946, he moved to Memphis. In 1947 he married the late Elizabeth Lyons. The couple moved to Detroit in 1953, and Mr. Lyons went to work for General Motors for 35 years. He retired in 1987.

Church. Mr. McK- inney, 77, died Feb. 4.

He was born

September 5, 1932 in Prenter W.Va., and attended Gar- nett High School in Charleston, W.Va.. After graduation, he went on to Ten- nessee State Uni- versity on a basket- ball scholarship.

Mr. McKinney

joined the U.S. Army in 1952. He achieved the rank of corporal as a paratrooper in the 82nd

airborne.

After leaving the military, he married Dolores James.

Mr. McKinney

worked for the De- troit Department of Transportation for 11 years. He was later one of

the first African- American bus driv- ers for Greyhound, where he retired after 25 years. He then worked for the Detroit Board of Education Dept. of Transportation for 10 years. He continued to serve the community by working for the election commis- sion during the voting season.

ity and was known for his sense of humor. He loved basketball, was on the U.S. Army Bas- ketball team, and was an avid fan of the Detroit Pis- tons. He was also a freelance photog- rapher, and would often take pictures for weddings, po- litical events and family events.
