months a year and more importantly
of how a sauna company is aiming
to bring sauna and steam bathing into the
bathrooms of UK homes.
The setting of Swedish Lapland, 200 km
inside the Arctic Circle and the world
famous ‘Ice Hotel’ is a perfect background
for what will be seen as a new concept for
the British home.
But first the real sauna experience.
Although a permanent chalet hotel
complex is open all year round, complete
with triple-glazed windows and central
heating, the Ice Hotel, situated in the

This year’s hotel has 74 rooms, best
described as a series of igloos with adjoining
adjacent snow corridors, 30 of which are ‘Art
Suites’, consisted of basic facilities – an ice
bed with a mattress and reindeer skins –
and ice sculpted art in each.
Sleeping in a room with a constant
temperature of -5°C is an experience. You
are woken up in the morning with a small
hot berry juice, brought to your room by
what can only be described as the modern
day equivalent of a St Bernard, a member
of the hotel staff clad in thermal suit and
an insulated drink-dispensing backpack!
But what does an Ice Hotel and a sauna
company have in common?
It’s simple, just that – a sauna, well
