Hexpol TPE will introduce new additions to its Dryfl ex TPE product line formulated for overmoulding onto polyamides. Due to its high strength, impact and high temperature resistance, PA is often used in applications such as power tools and this new Dryfl ex TPE can be used to add features such as non-slip safety grips or ergonomic handles. For producers of multi-component parts, it is critical that adhesion between the TPE and substrate is maintained to avoid delamination and peeling of the TPE layer. Initial overmoulding tech- nologies primarily combined a rigid PP substrate with a compatible olefi n based TPE. However with the expansion of multi-component designs into new application areas, the demand for TPE compounds that give a cohesive adhesion to a wider range of substrates has arisen. The new range includes grades that provide a high

bond strength with PA6, PA66, PA12 and PA blends, including reinforced polyamide compounds containing up to 40% glass fi bre. The compounds can be processed via insert and multi-shot processing technologies and offer a wide processing window of 200 to 280°C. “Toothbrushes, sport equipment, power tools,

automotive interiors, baby products and packaging; these are just a few examples where the introduction of Dryfl ex TPE has added a non-slip surface, functional sealing, improved haptics or abrasion resistance properties,” says Philippe Julien-Labruyère, Sales Director for Hexpol TPE China. Soft-touch overmoulding technologies and materials have radically changed the design possibilities for a

wide range of consumer and industrial products, according to Julien-Labruyère. “Our aim at Chinaplas 2016 is to show visitors how they can make the most of the signifi cant design and processing opportunities offered by our Dryfl ex TPE compounds. Our local Hexpol TPE China team will be on-hand to advise how product and mould design, gates and runners and processing technologies can be optimised,” he says.  www.hexpoltpe.com

Thermoplastic elastomer specialist Kraiburg-TPE will be introducing products at Chinaplas aimed at applica- tions in the automotive and wearable consumer electronics sectors. Part of the company’s Thermolast K range, the UV/ HF Series TPEs are pitched at applications requiring high UV resistance and high fl ow, such as automotive exterior components. Based on styrene block copolymers (TPS), the new products are said to be easier to process than TPVs and TPUs and offer

excellent bonding to PP. The new grades cover the hardness range from 52 to 92 Shore A and

cowls, gaskets, roof rims, water defl ectors and window encapsulation. A special version – UV/HF/SF – is available for

production of components demanding a very high quality surface fi nish. It is available in hardness

valuse from 49 to 86 Shore A. Copec TPEs are aimed at wearable technology

applications such as ear pieces, watch straps and the like. The grades offer a silky soft feel along with good

resistance to dirt, UV, oils and greases. The materials are designed for multi-component moulding applications and provide a very good bond to PC.  www.kraiburg-tpe.com
