NICKNAMES Arizona’s most famous and now official nickname “The Grand Canyon State” celebrates its most iconic feature, the Grand Canyon. Arizona is also known as the “Copper State” revealing its abundance in this mineral.

CAPITAL Phoenix is the 6th largest city in America with an estimated population of 1,488,750. It is located within the heart of the 13th largest metropolitan area in the country with an estimated population of 4,329,534. Phoenix is the most populous state capital in the United States.
