Free seminars, lively events to kick off Mexico and South Pacific cruising season.
TWO HARBORS — The much-looked- forward-to Cruisers Weekend will return to the Isthmus for its 18th year to help kickoff the start of the Mexico and South Pacific cruising season. Scheduled to run from Oct. 10 to 12,
the free event is open to all boaters to enjoy a weekend of free cruising semi- nars, boating booths, food, exhibitor booths and live music provided by Brent George and the Fat Masts at the Harbor Reef Bar. A Tri-tip barbecue will be offered on Saturday, Oct. 11, provided by the Port
Royal Yacht Club and drinks by Adventure Voyaging, and sides and deserts by you, the cruises. along Proceeds from the event’s raffle to bene- fit Heal the Bay,
Celp.net, the L.A. Maritime Institute and City of Hope. Visitors can also catch the finish of the Island to Island paddleboard race. Capt. Holly Scott will also provide a
“Round the Rocks Cruise” around the islands of Catalina and Santa Barbara for those interested. Don’t have your own boat? Sail and stay aboard the tall ship Brigantine Irving Johnson. The Catalina Wild Side Art Show & Sale set for Oct. 26
NEWPORT BEACH — Although the annual Catalina Wild Side Art Show & Sale will not take place on Catalina Island, the allure of the island will be captured in paintings displayed at Newport Harbor Yacht Club, Oct. 26. Sponsored by the Catalina Island
Conservancy, this is the first year Catalina: The Wild Side will be held on the mainland. Now, in its fourth year, Catalina: The Wild Side will highlight new island works by plein air artists Kenn Backhaus, Bye Bitney, John Budicin, John Cosby, Andy Evansen,
Kim Lordier, Joe Paquet, Matt Smith, Kate Starling and Jesse Powell. “This is an exceptional

opportunity to preserve a rich visual history of the Island’s con- servation for this generation and future generations to enjoy,” said Ann M. Muscat, Conservancy president and CEO. “We are fortunate to have such nationally acclaimed artists participating in our annual Wild Side Art Show & Sale.” A passion for Catalina Island and plein air art will come together to cre- ate an extraordinary afternoon. The show features 10 nationally acclaimed plein air artists, who will display their interpretations of Catalina’s rugged wildlands and scenic beauty. Proceeds from the sale of these paintings sup- port the growth of a permanent collec- tion of plein air artwork that docu- ments the Island’s wild side and the Catalina Island Conservancy’s restora- tion efforts.
