ENCELADUS To me, Enceladus is one of the most interesting places. It’s one of Saturn’s 53 moons. Ice covers this moon. It also has geysers. T ey spray icy water into the air. We have geysers on Earth, too.

Volcanic activity heats underground water. T e water boils to the surface. T en the water suddenly shoots up. T ere are no volcanoes on Saturn’s

moon. Instead, Saturn’s gravity pulls on the moon. T at makes heat. T e heat melts ice under the crust. T e tug of gravity also cracks the ice. T at lets the water quickly spray out.

Geysers on Enceladus often rain icy water onto this moon’s surface.

Boiling water and steam rise through layers of rock to create these geysers in Chile.
