Protecting a Habitat As a biologist, Rabinowitz knows that the
biggest patches of jaguar habitat are key to the cats’ survival. As many as 50 jaguars have room to roam these large areas. T at’s a healthy population. T ey can have enough cubs to keep the population steady, or even grow. Mapping where jaguars live is a first
step. Next, Rabinowitz and others convince governments to keep many patches wild for the jaguars. Now, jaguars will have a safe place to live. T ey’ll be protected. Or will they? What Rabinowitz learns next changes everything.
