SHARPSHOOTER ///

Best thing about your job? I get to do what I enjoy and get paid for it. As a freelancer, there is a fair bit of freedom to how you work and who you choose to work with. And you get to work at a variety of locations. Worst thing about your job? The perils of freelance work are always getting the balance with finding work, waiting for the next assignment, or having to make compromises when a few good offers roll in at the same time.

Dullest assignments and why? Things can get dull if you approach matters in a conservative manner. There is rarely a dull moment when the people you work with are not afraid to try new things, take risks and have a good sense of humour. You always learn new things if you keep an open mind.

Hairiest/scariest assignments and why? There have been a few close shaves with getting mugged and

losing your camera. And there have been a few instances of animals charging at you, because you can fall into a false sense of detachment with your surrounding when you're engrossed in the viewfinder. But the thing that comes to mind is a EU-funded film project about a year back. In a very remote forested

area in Laos, the film crew and I were driving off road through heavy rain for six hours. We came to an area where we had to cross a river. We managed to

drive though the shallow water but the vehicle stalled at the river bank. We felt the force of the

water pulling us back! It took a while before I could start the engine again and we still had to clear a steep and slippery slope before we were in the clear. It was a moment where you're thinking to yourself that you don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere, with night falling and no phone reception.

How much 16:9 do you shoot? Since 2007, pretty much all the time.

Which is your favourite place to shoot in? Outdoors, with natural light.

Favourite food? Dark chocolate. Easy to pack, keeps me going when hours when meals become irregular.

Favourite drink? Italian hot chocolate. Yes, I suffer from cocoa addiction. ///
