When they aren’t on the ice, Castelli and Shnapir love to explore their spectacular backyard, which includes the Charles River, Fenway Park and Boston Harbor. They have several favorite places to hang out and enjoy the energy and beauty of Boston, which they shared with SKATING magazine this summer and fall.

SEAPORT DISTRICT

A thriving new area of hip stores and restaurants, across the Fort Point Channel from downtown. During the Champion- ships, it will be bustling with skaters, with most of the nov- ice and junior events being held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. It’s also the site of the official hotel and practice rinks.

Simon — “I love coming to the Seaport and sitting by the water at a restaurant, or just walking around looking at the boats crossing the harbor — all the sailboats, the big tankers and cargo ships — and watching the planes; you can see the airport in the distance. It’s just a good place to come on a nice day and see all the action happening in town.”

FENWAY PARK Green Monster

Marissa — “I love the Boston waterfront. It’s so beautiful. It’s great to sit and just look out over the city. When I first moved here I would spend the day walking around with a couple of friends. It’s been the best experience, under- standing Boston and the culture. A couple of months ago I saw Paul Revere’s house for the first time. Every time you come to Boston you find something new.”

Home of the Boston Red Sox since 1912

Simon — “It’s a great area, with all the history. You can see it from one of the main highways and actually drive right behind the

(Fenway’s

left field wall) during the game. It’s fun to catch a quick peek of the fans in the stands. It’s such a staple of the city and there’s so much life and energy during games, especially in the summer. In the winter we don’t have any Red Sox games but it’s still a fun place to go and visit. It’s such a great part of our city.”

30 DECEMBER 2013 REFLECTING POOL

Located near Copley Square, the pool is 686 feet long and was designed by I.M. Pei.

Marissa — “I love the reflecting pool. It’s such a beautiful place to go sit and admire Boston and the Prudential Cen- ter. It’s great just to hang out there. I love going shopping at the Prudential Center.”
