Octopus George Upper body by Chantale Coady, Electric Vintage, UK Sailfi sh by Neil Bennet, Ink Studio, UK “I got my back piece done as my addiction for tattoos grew. I found this design, by a Japanese fetish artist, while researching diff erent tattoo artists. My sailfi sh and shark piece was done because I have a fascination with sharks, they are amazing creatures and I really want to dive out side of the cage with a Great White. I got addicted to tatttoos after going in for my fi rst, which is of Poseidon, and never stopped going back. My ink is more than just tattoos; they are works of art and I can take them everywhere I go instead of hanging them on a wall.”

“I got this tattoo of a giant Pacifi c Octopus in April of 2012 just after I had completed my divemaster training in Vancouver, BC. Since I had begun diving, the GPO was always the animal I would go looking for, and it always felt special seeing one because of the beauty and rarity they hold. Besides the animal itself, it also symbolizes where I am from - the Pacifi c Northwest.”
Tattoo by Emily Shoichet at Empire Tattoo “My stormy, dangerous ocean was a time when I was apart from my now-husband (Bo, below), going to nursing school in a diff erent province where I knew no one. I
made it through that storm to a new career and a new life, but I’ve always got a sturdy ship on my shoulder to remind me that rough seas can lead to new, great things.”

Tattoo by Jacob at Soul Survivors “The tattoo itself is inspired by a poem
called ‘The Sandokai’. The poem reminds me of diving and how much mystery
there is inherent in descending below the waves. My tattoo is the yet untold

tale of my own adventures. I’ve chosen to record them so I have them with me as a constant reminder of excitement of adventure, or delving into the unknown.” Photo: Scott Stevenson
