urasub is a one-atmosphere submersible built by DIVER parent company Nuytco Research Ltd. Owned and operated by Substation Curacao in the Caribbean. ‘Curasub’ takes paying customers into the deep. How deep? 1000 feet (305m), nearly
eight times deeper than a sport diver goes, and nearly 10 times deeper than most tourist subs in the world. ‘Curasub’ has room for five occupants: two passengers
forward, the sub pilot and two passengers looking out the domed side view ports. As well, the sub is used for science, specimen collection in the water column and on the bottom and for shooting hi-def video. The submersible has been in operation for nearly three
years, having logged about a thousand dives during that time. It’s a comfortable way of visiting the deep ocean; go to a thousand feet, stay there for hours and come straight back up in about ten minutes. No decompression is required since you remain at a design pressure of 14.7psi - one atmosphere. Is this a cool way to dive or what?
