Company Profile


The first independent recycling French company From a small company specialized in waste paper recycling that had in 1994 45 employees, Jean-Luc Petithuguenin built the first independent recycling French company.


In 2013, Paprec, it is : - over € 750 million of turnover, - 4,000 employees,


- 89 sites in France and Switzerland.


Paprec Group collects, sorts and recycles waste produced by its customers (manufacturers, business services, local authorities…) and then sells the recycled raw materials all over the world.


Thanks to an ambitious investment policy (more than € 700 million invested in production facilities and acquisitions), Paprec has been working in the whole value chain of recycling.


The Group has been actively pursuing its external growth policy with, for example, 11 new acquisitions in the last 3 years. They have allowed the Group to develop across new industries (scrap iron and metals, end-of-life vehicles, green waste) while growing its geographic coverage.


Pushing constantly at the limits of recycling, Jean-Luc Petithuguenin’s philosophy is that today’s waste is tomorrow’s raw materials. After raising US$200m at the end of last year, Paprec is now poised to become one of Europe’s recycling leaders and play a major role in the future of sustainability.


For 19 years, the turnover of the company has increased by 29% per year.


Global Impact Man of convictions, Jean-Luc Petithuguenin has chosen entrepreneurship and industry to express and enforce his humanist values: « Whether it be for people or companies, it is diversity that creates wealth. Thanks to a core-business based on recycling, the Group summaries its values with a maxim from Saint-Exupéry: “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”

Besides the group aims to be an example of environmental protection thanks to: - A strict compliance with environmental requirements (ISO 9,001 ; 14,001…)


- Initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (river transport or distribution to customers of reports related to gas emissions);


- An investment in renewable energies (photovoltaic systems, development of alternative fuels, biogas…);


- High quality of recycled raw materials.

he had the honor to receive the French Entrepreneur Of The Year Award, from Ernst and Young.


Jean-Luc Petithuguenin’s involvement in other entrepreneurial ventures extend well beyond Paprec, however. At the top of the list, we can cite Helios, a French leader in horizontal road signage (US$65m and over 400 employees) that he started from scratch in 2000. Today, he is the majority shareholder. Then there is La Foncière Verte, a publicly listed company, involved in the outsourcing of management of real estate assets, primarily for “scheduled” industrial installations within the meaning of environmental


regulations: waste


recycling plants, offices, warehouses, storage buildings, shop floors and parking garages. With 44 sites accounting for a total surface area of 3 million m², the assets of Foncière Verte and Foncières holdings were estimated at over US$200m by Jones Lang LaSalle Expertises at 31 December 2012.


Paprec’s next challenge is passing the threshold of 1 billion euros in turnover in 2015 (US$1.3bn). For Jean-Luc Petithuguenin, this gives rise to a question that is infinitely more complex: “how can we continue to grow without losing our soul?”
