March’s photo: Squirrel Creek Bridge
Constructed in 1917, the Squirrel Creek Bridge is a single span concrete rainbow arch bridge located on the west side of Shawnee in Pottawatomie County. The structure carries a county road over Squirrel Creek, a tributary of the Canadian River. The squirrel creek bridge embodies the distinctive characteristics of bridge engineering; specifi cally the rainbow arch bridge design. It is the only extant example of this type in Oklahoma.
