Anything in, anything out By Fergal Ringrose

Thomson Video Networks THE RD6000is the latest generation of integrated receiver decoder in the RD series. Developed for MPEG contribution applications, the RD6000 supports today’s highest quality contribution video feeds and provides full MPEG-2, MPEG-4, 4:2:0, 4:2:2, 8-bit, and 10-bit decoding in a single 1RU chassis. Thanks to its rich set of inputs and multiple audio decoding capacities, the RD6000 is a natural companion to the ViBE CP6000 encoder for satellite and telecom contribution systems.

On Display

By Melanie Dayasena-Lowe Gefen

THREE NEWDisplayPort solutions and four new 3GSDI systems will be presented by Gefen at this year’s NAB. Gefen will showcase two signal extenders and one EDID Detective Plus, all designed to enhance connectivity and improve performance in the broadcast environment. The DisplayPort Extender over 2 CAT-7 delivers high resolution video at 2560x1600 resolutions up to 30m. The Gefen ToolBox DisplayPort KVM Extender over CAT-7 delivers high resolution video at 2560x1600 resolutions with two USB 2.0 peripherals up to 30m in distance using three CAT-7 cables. The DisplayPort EDID Detective Plus prevents signal loss when delivering high resolution DisplayPort video over distances. Displays use EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) to communicate key information, including video resolutions and timings supported, to the source. If lost during transit, video may appear degraded or fail completely. In addition, Gefen will introduce four new products supporting 3GSDI systems at NAB. The GefenPRO

3GSDI Audio

Embedder will select one of four independent AES/EBU digital audio streams and implant it into the 3GSDI signal, allowing different audio streams to be re-assigned on the input side.

The Gefen PRO 3GSDI Audio DeEmbedder will extract audio from a 3GSDI source and output it as one of four digital AES/EBU audio streams, allowing individual digital audio channels to be re-arranged on the output. The GefenPRO HDVI to 3GSDI Scaler allows users to switch between either an HDMI or DVI input and convert and scale the output to 3GSDI with frame synchronisation for an impeccable performance. Meanwhile, the GefenPRO 3GSDI to 3GSDI Scaler w/frame synchroniser enables a high quality video output when using different SDI sources and displays, which can be up or downscaled to match the ideal output. The Video Processing Specialists When broadcasters replace content

By Fergal Ringrose Yospace

WITH BROADCASTERSaround the world looking to maximise revenue and comply with regulations when streaming live content to the web and mobile platforms, Yospace will demonstrate a complete package of solutions at NAB. The Yospace solution delivers a broadcast experience online, with no buffering or freezes even when replacing content in a live stream.

Being shown for the first time anywhere is SmoothStreaming support for content replacement, including tailored advertising and content blocking. The Yospace solution interfaces directly with the broadcast playout automation system so the consumer does not even realise that content has been replaced. Available and proven for HLS (Apple) platforms for some time, Yospace has now solved the considerable technical challenges of the Microsoft equivalent. NAB will be the first time this functionality has been demonstrated. SU8503
