NEWS EUROPE/UK Praise for Peavey seminar

DISTRIBUTORS and systems integrators from across Europe recently attended a three-day NION Technology and Applications Seminar held by Peavey Commercial Audio at its headquarters in Corby. The PCA team conducted a string of presentations and practical classes, so attendees could find out about the capabilities of the entire PCA range – from the MediaMatrix NION audio networking DSP processor to Crest Audio amplifiers and products from the Architectural Acoustics line. Paul Haughey of Fulford Sound and Communications said of the Architectural Acoustics’ entry-level DSP processor: “It was a very pleasant surprise when they introduced us to Digitool; I was very impressed by its capabilities. It could definitely be of interest to us in smaller jobs where we might not be able to stretch to a full MediaMatrix system.” One practical challenge for attendees was to create a paging system incorporating background music and various scheduled events, using NION along with DSP and control tools from Nware. “I found getting hands-on with the equipment was a real help for me, being new to MediaMatrix,” said Hakon Ogreid of Luthman Norway. “I always thought MediaMatrix was an audio-only system, but how wrong I was! The integration with projectors, video, anything really – it’s just so practical, and is a much bigger, more powerful system than I ever realised.” Another project task

A 16th century listed property in Surrey, UK, has been brought into the 21st Century after Lutron’s HomeWorks QS whole- home light control solution was installed.

followed “a real crash-course in the art of digital audio networking”, according to Stephen Joy, PCA’s application engineer. “We looked at CobraNet and Dante, then talked about large-scale installs, and how you can implement these technologies into large paging solutions. We then gave them a mock spec, and they had three hours to put the project together.” PCA’s operations manager EMEA, James Kennedy (standing in picture), discussed the benefits of using Crest Audio amplification and how to implement full interoperability into an installed system: “We touched on the capabilities of the networkable Crest amps; one of the demo scenarios we had was a Crest Ci amp

connected to the NION on the CobraNet network.” Lucid Programming’s Richard

Foy said: “I have to say that the sheer depth of the Peavey range has been a real eye- opener; we can now heartily recommend products across the board, from entry-level up to the top end. The ability to incorporate comprehensive third-party control integration into what is essentially a DSP environment also means we can reduce the amount of equipment used, and therefore reduce our costs.” Kennedy concluded: “It was

a real pleasure for us to have such a receptive class who could see so many possibilities with our products and therefore the potential benefits for their respective businesses.” www.peaveycommercialaudio.com

SAUDI ARABIA

What is believed to be the biggest indoor video mapping event in Saudi Arabia – a 35m x 7m show on a canvas 8,000 pixels wide – was staged recently by Projection Advertising at an event to promote the new city of Murooj Jeddah. Using multiple projectors, 50 lighting fixtures, surround

sound and live video elements, it was “one of the most challenging mapping productions we’ve delivered”, according to managing director Tom Burch. The company’s MIMO Mapper system (‘model in, movie out’) was responsible for the video mapping. www.projectionadvertising.co.uk
