Nike has fi nally joined the adjustable driver game—with an innovative twist. Nike’s new COVERT DRIVER is certainly fl ashy with its red head crowned by the unmistakable swoosh logo; and its FlexLoft system allows multiple settings, but the key breakthrough comes from the bottom of the club. Nike had designed a cavity-backed driver that has a hollowed-out hole in the back of the club. While it can’t be seen at address (hence the name covert), this feature provides more forgiveness, similar to cavity-back irons. Nike also uses NexCOR face technology to enlarge the sweet spot of its 460cc driver. Nike is
releasing a Covert Tour 430cc driver as well that features
a deeper face and fi xed weight screw. MSRP: $299; Tour $399
THE NEXT BIG THING
From the company that brought us those white-hot RocketBallz drivers and metalwoods, TaylorMade is hoping to fi ll the rest of your bag with its new ROCKETBLADEZ—irons it calls a “once-in-a-lifetime innovation.” Both the regular and tour editions of the irons are made of cast stainless steel and feature their thinnest and hottest face yet for more distance and improved accuracy. RocketBladez also utilize TaylorMade’s Speed Pocket, which fi rst appeared in RocketBallz fairway woods and hybrids in 2012. The Speed Pocket appears in the 3- through 7-irons and provides a lower center of gravity, enlarged sweet spot and more distance control. MSRP: $799
