Creating and embracing change
Over the past 25 years, we’ve seen signifi cant milestones. Many of these – the increasing number of national pavilions; introduction of the leading DAME design award; introduction of
metstrade.com and the MyPages with news feeds by IBI; implementation of specialist product pavilions; substantial extension of exhibition space – have kept METS on track as an innovative show that creates and embraces change.
It has always been exciting to plan the next move and our 25th anniversary mission has been to raise our glasses to our success to date and set our strategy for the immediate years to come. Our major focus is on building communities, communication and knowledge exchange, making use of a wealth of newer technologies that will drive us forward into our next quarter century.
At METS this year, we have extended the scope of our specialist product pavilions, not only to expand them in exhibitor terms but also to add venues for specialist presentations. The relocated Marina & Yard Pavilion (MYP) in the Europe Foyer and the Construction Material Pavilion (CMP) in the Elicium both have dedicated seminar areas or ‘stages’ and speaker programmes have been devised to ensure that niche market visitors can benefi t from an associated educational programme.
We are also working to expand our Young Professionals Club (YPC) further to its modest introduction last year. For 2012 we’ve put together a vibrant programme that welcomes young people into the METS family via special briefi ngs, networking and social sessions, guided tours and more. Our Young Professionals are free to attend any of the sessions we run and have their own base in the YPC Lounge.
Although perhaps new to METS, our younger colleagues will, of course, be very familiar with up-to-the- minute communications. We have launched an active new media Facebook fan page for our 25th and set up a twitter account. Communications are a major focus for us and everyone can benefi t from our mobile website, app and appointment module, and match making services that help visitors connect more effi ciently with exhibitors before the show even opens. Look out for special features, such as live stream and video packages.
There’s more to come. For example, as conference partner of ICOMIA, we are delighted to announce that we will be organising the ICOMIA World Marina Conference for 2-3-4 June 2014 in Istanbul, Turkey. And, over the next six months, we’ll be unveiling extra details of the new METS strategy – within METS Amsterdam and beyond – that aims to innovate, communicate and educate. METS 2012 is a marker year and, as always, I wish to acknowledge the exceptional METS team and our Amsterdam RAI agents around the world for their hard work. Thank you all.
Enjoy the show! Irene Dros
