WATER WONDERS
Rosco’s X-24 X-Effects Projectors have been used to create a beautiful moving-water effect at the Hakassan restaurant in Abu Dhabi.
Hakassan is a modern style Chinese restaurant with a beautifully decadent interior. The original restaurant was opened in London in 2001, and the Abu Dhabi location was first opened in June 2010. It is often said that we eat with our eyes, and for the team behind Hakassan it is important that the restaurant’s appearance is just as enticing as the food. When it was decided that the bar area of the Abu Dhabi restaurant needed to attract more attention, designing an eye-catching and exciting feature was order of the day. Designers at Firefly Lighting Design wanted to create a central focus for the incredible 15-metre bar in the Abu Dhabi location, and wanted to create a truly dramatic lighting effect.
The team decided that in order to create 56
a theatrical scene for the bar area they would call on the help of Rosco’s X-24 X- Effects Projectors to create a stunning moving-water effect. The projectors are widely used in theatres around the world, and are equipped with gobos that create this majestic appearance. Borrowing the effect from the world of theatre was a perfect solution for the restaurant, as it has created a powerful aesthetic that suits the surroundings perfectly. The effect is versatile and can be altered to suit the various moods that a bar needs to encompass throughout the day. During the afternoon the moving water effect can help to create a calming and tranquil bar setting, whilst the kinetic and interesting effect of the projectors is also suitable for a lively bar area heading into the evening.
The moving water effect runs
constantly, and the projectors are lined up across the entire 15m back wall of the bar. The installation has proven to be a real success. In fact, given the reception of the installation in Abu Dhabi, Hakassan restaurants across the world in Dubai, Mumbai and New York, which have similar decors from Firefly Lighting design, have also been installed with the same X-24 X- Effects Projectors from Rosco.
