Many people believe that the performance of an athlete sums up everything they are as a person.
Athletes are widely placed on pedestals as heroes and role models, who can handle fame and adoration, without the difficulty, trials, or problems that any average person would face in life. They are seldom considered to be “regular people”, and their inconsistencies or poor performance can be disastrous, not only to themselves, but also to the organizations they represent.
Contrary to this social stigma, we at the S.T.A.R. Center of Baton Rouge work to help the individual to find common ground with others, and to define a purpose for their lives, apart from their performance as athletes.
You don’t have to tackle dependence alone.
