treaming video, online gaming, and multimedia downloads in seconds are now possible for rural residents, thanks to a new Internet service option from Kiamichi Electric Cooperative. Available now for co-op members, ViaSat’s Exede Internet is a
satellite broadband service that moves rural consumers past the point of simply being able to get something faster than dial-up, to really getting a premium high-speed Internet service. “In the past people using a satellite connection have been limited to a certain extent on the things they have been able to do,” said Todd Minshall, Kiamichi Electric communications specialist.
For instance, Exede better Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP), improved download and upload speeds.
How much better? The best that satellite services could offer before was 2 mbps download speeds. Minshall says Exede offers download speeds of up to 12 mbps, and uploads up to 3 mbps. In real terms, this means rural residents can download an entire music album in seconds whereas before that process took several minutes.

Kiamichi Electric offers members the choice of three affordable service packages that will all include the same fast speed. The chief difference in the packages is the volume of data that can be
downloaded. Data options include 10 mbps; 15 mbps; and 25 mbps.
