Haven’s renewable option wins over Manchester Airports Group
usiness electricity supplier Haven Power is playing a key role in helping Manchester Airports Group (MAG) reach its environmental targets, having been chosen to supply power from a 100 percent renewable source to its sites.

The contract to provide electricity to Manchester, East Midlands, Humberside and Bournemouth airports makes MAG one of Haven’s largest customers. Haven was selected thanks to its capability to offer customers power generated from biomass, at no extra cost compared to energy supplied from traditional fuel sources. This option perfectly complemented the group’s commitment to make ground operations carbon neutral.
Neil Robinson, CSR Director Manchester Airports Group, says: “As part of our commitment to make ground operations carbon neutral across the Manchester Airports Group by 2015, we are always looking at ways to reduce energy demand, produce our own renewable energy on site or where this is not feasible, source renewable power. Haven Power’s dedication to renewable energy mirrors our own sustainability values and we are therefore looking forward to developing a long term partnership with them.“
Chief Executive of Haven Power, Peter Bennell, comments: “The majority of businesses are now under increasing pressure to be more environmentally
responsible and large companies such as Manchester Airports Group are setting their own goals to contribute towards sustainability targets. “Taking the option of power from a 100 percent renewable source,
customers benefit from the supply being exempt from Climate Change Levy. It is a very simple but effective way of demonstrating commitment to being more sustainable without compromising the budget. We’re pleased to be appointed as MAG’s electricity supplier and hope it develops into a long-lasting relationship.” As part of Drax Power Limited, Haven has the ability to supply customers with biomass-generated energy. Biomass burnt at Drax delivers significant carbon footprint savings compared to a typical gas-fired generating plant. This allows Haven to help customers achieve more environmentally responsible energy use yet still at a competitive price. For further information on Haven Power, please call 01473 725493, email

CAMDEN COUNCIL APPOINTS ISS AS NEW FACILITIES
MANAGEMENT PARTNER
Camden Council has awarded a three-year contract to ISS Facility Services to manage reactive repairs, planned maintenance, helpdesk services, porterage and building cleaning in 62 schools, 10 children’s centres, and 162 other council buildings, including libraries and offices.
Camden will move from a range of support contracts with different suppliers into this single contract with ISS, saving money and making for a more streamlined process.
Under the new contract, the Council and service users will benefit from: • Excellent value for money;
• Consistent reporting; • Reduced administrative work in ordering and payment.
The contract, which was awarded in collaboration with Government Procurement Services, starts in January 2012. More than 200 people employed under current contracts will transfer to ISS. ISS Facility Services is an approved supplier on the government’s facilities framework.
Jane Sheard, Managing
Director, ISS Facility Services Integrated Solutions said: “We are very excited about embarking on this new partnership and we share Camden’s commitment to achieving excellence and
great value for local residents and businesses. In the new contract, the Council has been very rigorous in focusing on delivering real results for the community. As an example, in addition to improving value and quality, all our staff working in schools will be CRB checked to ensure child safety.” Camden Council has agreement from its current contractors that they will continue with their existing contract commitments, including work over the Christmas break.
ISS has consulted the unions on transferring staff and has started a series of roadshows for this group and school staff to make sure that they are clear on the process and that it has captured their views on how to achieve the best possible results.
