HAVING recently caught Lazer Sword, aka Lando Kal and Low Limit, at a tiny Brooklyn gallery we can attest to the power of their live show. Recently signed up to Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons for an album, a sure fire sign of quality, their sound has grown from its Bay Area hyphy beginnings to become something less easily definable, sometimes still recognisably hip-hop but pumped up by both an injection of transatlantic bass and the influence house and techno of Berlin where
Lando now lives. In other words, all the best shit. Take their chart as a case in point. New York house wunderkind Manik might top the poll, but it’s a melange of tempos and temperaments beneath him, from the hazy, synth entwined garage of Sepalcure to the ‘90s Chicago house of Boo Williams, Bok Bok and Tom Trago’s ultramodern banger next to Darling Farah’s late night techno. Get to know, because it won’t be long before Lazer Sword are cutting their way through less talented acts.
