Ericka Garcia of Olustee, OK


and Liana Mingura of Hollis, OK attended the Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp July 9-16, 2011 in Steamboat Springs, CO. Garcia, daughter of Raymond and Sarah Garcia and Mingura, daughter of Roberto and Monica Mingura, were the winners of the 2011 Cooperative Youth Leadership Camp, sponsored by Harmon Electric Association in Hollis, Oklahoma. At camp, Ericka and Liana


joined around 76 other high school students from Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming cooperatives. Garcia expressed her appreciation for the opportunity


to attend the camp. “I had an amazing time, all thanks to Harmon Electric” said Ericka. “More than anything, I want to thank everyone for


providing such an amazing experience. I have a memory that will last a lifetime and Colorado will remember a tiny piece of Hollis! I hope Harmon Electric will continue this fantastic experience.” stated Mingura. During their week-long stay in Colorado, the students created their own cooperative, complete with a board of

exhibited amazing leadership potential,” Shana Holsteen, Kansas Electric Cooperatives Director of Communications said. “Throughout the week, campers developed their leadership skills and learned about electric cooperatives through camp activities. It is amazing to see how much the students’ skills grow in just one week.”


The campers also took part in legislative presentations,


a light and high voltage display and a competition to build a transmission line. They explored the Steamboat Village, Old Town Steamboat Springs, went white water rafting and toured the Craig Power Plant and Trapper Mine. Harmon Electric Association is proud to support


the Youth Tour program and send our youth to develop essential leadership and teamwork skills,” said Charles Paxton, General Manager. “Our hope is that local students gained awareness of how our electric cooperatives work and how important it is for the youth to be involved in their community.”
