participate at the right time it would make all the difference. At every step of the way, Jack had been communicating to the Managing Director, Lester Kirsten and he invited Lester to attend the first roadshow with his team. He built confidence. The focus of these

roadshows was always on telling the story and relaying the message to the team in the right way. Right from the beginning, we focused on sharing with Lester how we saw the process unfolding so when the first roadshow happened there were no surprises for the leadership team. Jack made sure that the first session was small and allowed for a positive experience not only Lester for but also for the key stakeholders who would be central to the success of the process. It was a message from the heart. When Jack asked me to assist with putting the process

together, we were both in agreement that this needed to connect to the hearts of the people. Everyone was clear on what needed to be done but as in life, knowing what you need to do is very different to being moved to do it, because you believe in why you are doing it. It ignited the hearts of the people. Lester

was instrumental in this. His story and vision for the Company is poignant to say the least. It’s a story for every person in South Africa and the role an organisation like the Company can play in transforming our country. All we had to do was package it in a way that everyone could understand and relate to. The people love their leader. It’s so true that people follow people. We need meaning and purpose. We need to know that we count. We need to be recognised and heard at the highest level in the business. Lester is one of

“Don’t worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you’ll have to ram them down people’s throats.” – Howard Aiken
