IT ALL BEGAN

with Gloria Lee’s innate artistic spark and a creative idea to paint the family’s dog, Digory. An experienced and gifted artist, Gloria took this project on as a new challenge, resulting in a colorful pop-art style portrait of the beloved furry family member. The portrait of Digory turned out to be so reflective of the dog’s unique char- acter; it immediately drew attention of other dog lovers. Soon, Gloria was working on commissions and then at- tracted representation from galleries and pet boutiques. Her art was so well received; she was commissioned to create an entire collection of various dog breeds in the same fun, simple and colorful style. Gloria entitled her new creations Pop Dogs! Today, the Pop Dogs collection features 40 breeds (in many color combinations) so that any dog lover can find one of Gloria’s Pop Dog breeds that most represents their “best friend.” Having grown up in the 1960s when the pop art

movement was influencing minds of young artists, art has always been a big inspiration for Gloria’s life. As a child, she was exposed to the arts in school; in college, she would spend a great amount of time sculpting and paint- ing. In working with artists such as Michael Flohr, Steve Barton and Maher Marcos—Gloria has also had the op- portunity to share her unique talents and sense of style with her colleagues. To date, Gloria has conducted dozens of personal

exhibitions across the United States, from the New York Art Expo, New York and Los Angeles gift shows, to San Diego’s ArtWalk festivals. Gloria was the official artist for the National Dog Day in 2006 and Pop Dogs have been featured in national publications such as Hollywood Dog, New York Dog, Décor Magazine, Art Business News, Fido Friendly and a variety of other art magazines. Gloria has had the opportunity to collaborate with the American Kennel Club in its pursuit of advancement of purebred dogs by popularizing pure breeds. Over time, Gloria’s love of dogs has extended into a

variety of new passions, including support for the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) and the Humane So- ciety in San Diego. These local organizations are unique in the number of services they provide for both animals and humans. They provide shelter to animals in need and they also educate citizens about how to ensure the hu- mane and respectful treatment of animals. For Gloria it was an easy decision to help the local centers. Today she regularly participates in many charitable events to help support the well-being of animals. Gloria is currently working on her first book entitled,

Pop Dogs in the City—a charming story for all ages which will, of course, be accompanied by new original illustra- tions of her loveable canines!
