LA Aluminum Adding $1 Million Expansion to Existing Manufacturing Space LA Aluminum Casting Co., Hayden,


Idaho, has completed half of a 20,000-sq.-ft. expansion to its manufac- turing facilities and expects to complete the second half by Spring 2011. The expansion, which LA Aluminum


sales and marketing manager Michelle Richter said should cost about $1 million all told, was designed to house a custom powder coating line the company plans to build. According to Richter, LA Aluminum has seen a steady increase in demand for powder coated parts, particularly from its


wind energy customers, many of whom have come back from low-cost countries. “We didn’t experience the recession at


all,” Richter said. “For the last three years, [we’ve] grown the company by 25% each year, and [we’re] looking to do it again.” Until the expansion is completed and

Watertown, Wis., has been awarded Supplier Quality Excellence Process (SQEP) Bronze Level Certification by Caterpillar, Peoria, Ill. According to Alan Holtz Jr., Spuncast’s


vice president of sales and engineering, the company is one of the first steel metalcasting facilities to achieve certified status from Caterpillar. Spuncast has been a supplier of parts used on Caterpillar’s largest mining trucks and large wheel loaders for more than 25 years. Caterpillar initiated the SQEP program


during the summer of 2009. According to a company press release, Spuncast received the certification for both quality metrics and delivery performance. MC
