SIGMA LAUNCHES SD1

The Sigma Corporation has launched the SD1 Digital SLR Camera, incorporating a 46 megapixel 24×16mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor. The combination of the 46 megapixel sensor and dual TRUE II processing engines ensure the high resolution images are processed quickly with high definition and smooth and subtle graduation of colour.

The 46 megapixel (4,800×3,200×3 layers) 24×16mm APS-C X3 direct image sensor featured in the Sigma SD1 captures all primary RGB colours at every pixel location, ensuring the capture of full colour. Using three silicon-embedded layers of photo detectors,

stacked vertically to take advantage of silicon’s ability to absorb red, green and blue light at different respective depths, it efficiently reproduces colour more accurately, and offers sharper resolution, pixel for pixel, than any conventional image sensor. The SD1 can be used with over 40 Sigma lenses such as ultra-wide, ultra-telephoto, macro and fisheyes which adopt the latest technology such as FLD and SLD glass, Aspherical lenses, Sigma’s unique Optical Stabiliser function, Hyper Sonic Motor and Sigma’s Super Multi Layer Coating.

LIGHTING OCTOBOX SPEEDS UP

Bowens has completely redesigned its Octo150 softbox and added a smaller, highly portable sibling – the Octo90.The new-look Octo150 now features a ‘zip and lock’ design for fast assembly. Unique to Bowens, the Octo features a perfectly round front diffuser to create ‘pleasing and natural’ round catch lights in the subjects’ eyes in portraiture. Additionally the light is mounted inside the

Octobox facing the rear, away

from the subject.

UK lighting expert Steve Aves said: “I’ve tested these new products and frankly I can’t see anything else on the softbox market to beat them.

“Nobody really likes putting up a softbox –

or taking it down, but the Bowens’ boffins have obviously had their thinking

ACCESSORIES LUMIX LENSES NOW IN 3D

Panasonic has introduced three new interchangeable lenses based on the Micro Four Thirds System standard from the Lumix G Micro System.

Lumix G 14 mm/ F2.5 ASPH, features a 14mm (35 mm camera equivalent: 28 mm) wide angle and F2.5 brightness. It offers performance in shooting not only landscapes but also snapshot or indoor shooting. The new telephoto zoom lens Lumix G VARIO 100- 300mm/F4.0-5.6/MEGA

O.I.S. realises 300mm (35 mm camera equivalent: 600 mm) handheld ultra-telephoto zoom shots with a compact and light weight profile. The Lumix G VARIO 100- 300mm/F4.0-5.6/MEGA O.I.S. allows photographers to challenge shooting subjects such as sports, wild animals, aircraft and so on without carrying a huge conventional ultra-telephoto zoom lens and a heavy tripod. The world’s first

interchangeable 3D lens

Lumix G 12.5mm/F12 (H-FT012) features two optical systems installed within the diameter of the lens mount, creating stereo images from the left and right lenses, to be processed with a 3D image processing system. Shooting 3D content with an interchangeable lens system camera was previously possible by using panorama systems or a combination of two lenses and two CCDs, but these systems have drawbacks including the need for a

dedicated 3D camera and the difficulties capturing moving objects. This new compact 3D-capable interchangeable lens allows easier handling and instant 3D shooting with

cameras without a

special structure for 3D

shooting.

caps on because these two new Octo softboxes are a real breath of fresh air. Sound design, quality materials and some neat extra touches.”

The new Octo90 version has all the features of its bigger counterpart – but in even more portable format. This model ships with two inner tone reflectors (one gold, the other silver and gold) which

can be used to warm up the light

and help create

more natural and healthy skin tones. The revamped Octobox range is available now from Bowens. The Octo90 retails for a recommended £415.99 (ex VAT) and its larger sibling,

The Octo150 for a recommended retail price of £535.99.
