THE GTCE CODE OF
CONDUCT AND PRACTICE

PETITION
To the Chair and Chief Executive of the GTCE
I strongly object to the decision by the General Teaching Council for England (GTCE) to introduce a new
Code of Conduct and Practice for teachers.
I want the Code withdrawn because:
• it intrudes into teachersʼ personal lives;
• it is an affront to teachersʼ basic human rights;
• it unreasonably extends the GTCEʼs responsibilities;
• it is riddled with vague statements that are open to wide interpretation and abuse and therefore puts
teachers at risk;
• it was developed on the basis of a fundamentally flawed consultation process;
• it represents a monumental waste of money.
