to societal innovations and our own habitual routines, yet I’ve been exploring what it would mean to apply an entirely different approach to travel and leisure as well. My curiosities about self-improvement led me to explore what the idea of transformation means for myself and the world in the context of adventure. In this pursuit, I met Marc Winn, a leader in a new space which is merging adventure with transformative processing. Attending one of his curated experiences helped open my eyes to how we can embed a process of radical self-awareness into adventure.
We
SUNLIGHT danced over the clear aqua water with bright sparks of divine light as picturesque soft gray dolphins frolicked in harmony. These lively creatures surrounded us, flowing in geometric formations. Feelings of interconnectedness and fluidity came through my body. The vividness of this Bimini environment was invitingly seductive, offering a portal for vulnerability to emerge due to the peace and tranquility, captured by master photographer Atmo Kubesa.
MARC, our host for this Big Adventure, had previously explained that dolphins emit a high amount of alpha waves from their bodies. As a frequency, alpha waves are associated with meditative states of peace and joy. For example, as a human deepens their meditative process, they often begin to emit increasingly more alpha frequencies. These can be measured as brainwaves through EEG machines. Therefore, Marc postulated that if we spend time swimming with wild dolphins, we could likely begin to synchronize with their states of joy. In previous research on dolphin-human connection, David Cole and Dr. Jozsef found that when exposed to dolphins, human brain wave patterns drop from an active state, beta brain waves, down to a meditative brainwave pattern, alpha and sometimes even theta brain waves.

ALTHOUGH there exists extensive evidence to support the transformative effects of dolphins on human health, I wasn’t there to solely engage in academic or intellectual pursuits. I wanted to surrender to the immersive environment of the ocean’s wonders—surrender to the unknown, and ultimately, surrender to the sensational intelligence of whom we could become when the head and the heart merge into harmony.
