New Understanding Scientists have recently discovered that there are two species of quetzal. Tis is good news. Yet it also means that each species is more rare than people thought. Te quetzal is legally protected


in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama.


Costa Rica has wildlife preserves


and national parks to help protect quetzals. Countries can help connect habitats, too. Tey can also enforce punishments against those who harm the birds. By working together, people can help quetzals to continue to fly free.
