ABC Fire Extinguisher provides quality fire prevention equipment and services

by Robyn M. Feller F

or over 56 years, family-owned, Pittsburgh- area-based ABC Fire Extinguisher Co. has been dedicated to saving lives and protecting property throughout Allegheny County and its surrounding

counties. On the heels of 2016’s National Fire Prevention Week (October 9 - October 15), currently the longest running public health and safety observance on record, ABC reflects on its own history and the fire protection products and safety services they offer.

SAFETY AND SERVICE STEEPED IN HISTORY

In 1960, William Groomes founded ABC Fire Extinguisher Co. to assist companies in observing fire safety issues and to provide fire protection/prevention measures. Over the decades, ABC has built a reputation of providing customers with the highest quality products and services possible. They aspire to provide businesses throughout the region with the appropriate safety and health protection for employees while ensuring compliance with the local and national standards set forth by the NFPA, OSHA, ANSI, BOCA, and other author- ities having jurisdiction.

Deborah Fannie, Owner of ABC Fire Extinguisher and the daughter of founder William Groomes, says of their success and longevity, “Our clients know we are always ready, willing and able to bid on their upcoming projects and we are capable of providing all the fire protection, cabinets and fire alarm systems they are looking for.” She adds, “You can always count on personalized service. Whether small or large, every customer is important to us.”

Debbie, who has owned the company since 1990, literally grew up on the business, as her father kept his first stock of fire extinguishers underneath her crib. Today she entrusts the day-to-day functions of the company to COO Alan Reichl and Mark Connolly, ABC’s Service Manager, who comprise the company’s newly created management team. Jim Lutz, who has been with ABC for over a decade and a half, continues to review contractors’ projects and quotes the requests for bids promptly, economically and with a strong attention to detail.

Eventually, the reigns will be earned by the third generation as Debbie’s three children are poised to be the future of the business. Her eldest son, Tom Jr., works in business devel- opment for ABC and achieved his certifications to service and install restaurant/commercial/industrial fire suppres- sion systems. Tyler, a college senior at RMU, spends his summers as a service technician for the team, and daugh- ter Tiffany, despite full-time employment elsewhere, applies
