A FAMILY LEGACY IN CONSTRUCTION
Legacy 7 Construction’s first employees, Benedict “Ben” Torcivia III and Joseph “Joe” Torcivia Jr., are the grandchildren of Benedict Torcivia Sr., the Founder and Chairman of Torcon Inc., a family-run, at-risk construction management and general contracting firm with offices in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico. The 50-year-old Torcon company is one of the largest, most active builders in the mid-Atlantic states.
When Torcivia Sr. founded Torcon in 1965, his intention was to continue a family legacy started by his father-in-law in the early 1900s—to build a company that would afford future gen- erations opportunities not only in the construction business but in whichever line of work they chose.
During the early years of their careers, Ben III and his cousin, Joe Jr., chose to work outside of Torcon, despite the fact that the well-established business would provide secure livelihoods for each of them.
“Honestly, I never knew if I would join the family business. It’s an extraordinary company; I could have started there and been very happy,” says Ben III, who spent summer and winter breaks during high school and college working in the field on Torcon projects with his brothers. “My father and grandfather told me to find something I enjoyed and to work as hard as I could to be great at it, but there was never any pressure to join the business.”
After exploring other lines of work for several years, Joe Jr. joined Torcon in 2011, and in 2012, Ben III followed suit.
After two short years with six members of the Torcivia family working together at Torcon, a choice was made to expand the family’s professional footprint and start L7. Joe Jr. adds: “In retrospect, the decision to start the new business, while daunting, has proven to be a great one for our family and clients. Not only as a way to diversify our interests and abilities while providing quality service, but also to allow the family members working in the business to follow their passions and interests, which is what my grandfather wanted for all of us.”
And such was the advent of Legacy 7 Construction, a business by which its very name pays tribute to the late Torcivia Sr. and the descendants who continue to grow the business he began.
Legacy 7 Construction participated in the renovation of dorms at the Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey, the second-oldest seminary in the U.S.

ADVANCING A NEW COMPANY
Legacy 7 Construction hit the ground running in late October 2014 under the close watch of its President, 30-year Torcon veteran, Steven Kessler, PE, and secured its first contract almost immediately after opening the doors. Since then, the construction management firm has quickly grown to 14 staff members, including Ben III, the company’s Finance and Administration Manager, and Joe Jr., L7’s Business Devel- opment Manager. L7 has also increased its list of qualified subcontractors to the thousands, and by the end of the second year in business, the L7 team will have managed over $50 million worth of work.
