become the hub of the new entertainment dis- trict. This would create a tremendous amount of jobs and prosperity for the area.”


SKYPLEX received final approved in December 2015. The 1.5 million-square-foot venue will sit on 14 prime acres in International Drive’s entertainment corridor. It features an enclosed amusement park with arcades, simulators, games, rides, dining and retail—all built around a 600-foot tower that will be the tallest structure in Central Florida. The development will offer year-round fun and have the feel of an upscale Las Vegas casino.


When visitors take to the excitement of the rides, they will be riding on or next to the outside of the massive tower. Thrill rides in SKYPLEX include: The Skyscraper, which is the world’s first Polercoaster, a vertical roller coaster cir- cling up the 600-foot tower; SkyFall, a 450- foot drop ride that lies flush against the tower; and a 1,500-foot zip line within the tower. The tower’s observation deck will offer views 535 feet from the ground and will be accessible by glass-enclosed elevators. The complex also in- cludes a 2,400-car parking garage with a valet parking option.


GOING BEYOND EXPECTATIONS


For Wallack and his father David, this journey to SKYPLEX started in 2011 when Josh dis- covered a vacant building on I-Drive and Sand Lake Road, and decided to work with his dad to launch a second Mango’s Tropical Café and entertainment venue there. The new establish- ment replicates the successful Mango’s they opened in Miami Beach more than 25 years ago. The company opened Mango’s in Orlando in December 2015 and recently broke ground for its attractive parking garage, which will also fea- ture a rooftop restaurant.


They were also able to acquire a vacant piece of land across the intersection for parking for Mango’s. What Wallack didn’t know is that he’d be starting a property acquisition mar- athon that would last three years and seven months, with eight land parcels sourced from eight different parties, 17.43 acres assembled overall and $69.35 million invested in real es- tate alone. After withdrawing the parking vari- ance request, the father-son team began to envision SKYPLEX.
