Championing Metalcasting to Our Nation’s Leaders

AFS elevated the industry’s visibility in Washington, D.C., by advocating on key legislation, testifying before Congress, submitting comments on a wide variety of proposed regulations and working closely with members of Congress, congressional staff, agency officials and numerous coalitions.

Key AFS advocacy efforts have included:

• Filing suit over OSHA’s final silica rule with the National Association of Manufacturers and continuing to fight for a reasonable rule for industry.

• Testifying before the House Subcommittee on the challenges of complying with OSHA’s Silica Rule (AFS member Janis Herschkowitz, president and CEO, PRL Inc. Regal Cast, testified.)

• Securing victories on infrastructure legislation, the R&D credit, and the Clean Power Initiative.

• Ramping up our participation in litigation in response to the tsunami of regulations coming out of the agencies, by joining other manufacturing groups, in challenging the Environmental Protection Agency’s Clean Power Plan and Ozone rules.

• Submitting comments to the Treasury Department and IRS in opposition to the proposed estate-tax rules which would increase estate and gift taxes by more than 30 percent.

• Securing a House letter with support of 72 members of Congress which urged the Appropriations committee to prohibit funding for OSHA to implement its silica rule until additional studies and reports are completed.

• Pushing for the Congress to act on the Water Resources Development Act for funding for water infrastructure improvements.

• Providing input on OSHA’s request for information concerning chemical management and permissible exposure limits.

• Recognizing three key lawmakers: Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), Rep. Bob Gibbs (R-OH), and Rep. Bill Huizenga (R-MI), with the AFS Metalcasting Eagle Award as strong allies of the foundry industry. They support efforts to expand domestic energy production, invest in long-term efforts to modernize our nation’s aging infrastructure, and champion legislation that would eliminate costly taxes and regulations that harm manufacturers.
