Sonia Rodriguez: Through the Equipo Verde, we’ve built close friendships — and we’ve also built relationships with city officials. I see that people care and want to make the community better. That gives me confidence and makes me feel safer.
Pedro Arias: When I was young, the alley was just disgusting. You’d see stray dogs and graffiti everywhere. My favorite part now is the murals. They bring out my inner artist.
Sonia Santana: I have seven children and five grandchildren. I joined the Equipo Verde for

them — for their safety. Before the alley was rebuilt, we never walked through. It was too dirty and scary. Now we like coming here.
Sophia Giron: I’m setting an example for my kids to participate and improve the community. My daughter comes too—she plants trees and helps keep the alley clean.
Nurin Miranda: People used to dump old furniture and mattresses in the alley. Now we work hard to keep this place clean for our children. It was a great idea to plant fruit trees — they are beautiful!
Members of the Equipo Verde meet monthly to help keep the newly renovated alley clean and green.
