Heading to MoPac: Members’ Assembly is on the Move

Your national organization is partnering with the Coyotes Curling Club in Tempe, Ariz., to bring the assembly to you this year on Oct. 13-16. Te long weekend in October will include a

mix of U.S. Curling Association business, edu- cational opportunities, social gatherings, and curling. While all member clubs are encouraged to send a delegate to cast their votes during the Members’ Meeting (clubs without a representa- tive will have their votes cast by the region), at- tendance is not limited to voting delegates. All members who have an interest in growing their clubs, learning more about effective club opera- tions, hearing about the recent achievements of the national organization, or meeting curlers from throughout the United States, should con- sider attending for all or any part of the program. Seminars focused on using video to promote


your club, securing club sponsorships, volun- teerism, youth curling, college curling, strategy, building dedicated ice, and making ice, are just some of the topics that will be discussed at the event. With 13 years of experience as a manager for the Lethbridge Curling Club in Alberta (a 10- sheet facility), World Curling Federation (WCF) Competitions and Development Officer, Darrell Ell, will lead a discussion on how curling clubs can more effectively target and show value to po- tential sponsors. Al Moon, Sales and Marketing Manager at Ice King, will talk about ice making and demonstrate their latest and most advanced ice profiler, the Monarch with Acumen technol- ogy. Whether you work on your club’s ice or just enjoy curling on good ice, this session should answer all of your questions about the latest ice making technology. Tis includes the opportunity for you to have your delivery analyzed by USA Curling High Performance Director and Olym- pic Coach, Derek Brown. Interested in learning mixed doubles or improving your current game? Want to know when (or how) to use the power play? Two-time Olympian Allison Pottinger will team up with Brown to discuss this new Olympic curling discipline. On-ice training will wrap up with Patrick McDonald, two-time Paralympian, teaching a Wheelchair Instructor Certification Course. For those who want to play a few games, pick-


up games will take place on Friday night and the USA Curling Members’ Cup (the shortest spiel with the tallest trophy) will be held on Saturday evening, Oct. 15. Teams made up of curlers from around the country (no need to bring a team with you) will compete for the pride of being the sec- ond team to win the right to have their names engraved on the coveted national trophy. With USA Curling board members and staff available as teammates, you never know, you may end up skipping an Olympian or the chairman of the board. If your team wins, there will be plenty of photo opportunities. But, don’t worry, you will not be expected to pack the trophy in your suit- case for the ride home. For those who get elimi-
