PRODUCT PREVIEWS THE LATEST MANUFACTURING MACHINES, TOOLS AND TECHNOLOGY

Micro-Machining Wire EDMs AgieCharmilles CUT X Series of wire EDMs feature new technolo- gies and are capable of holding extreme accuracies in machine positioning and pitch. The CUT X Series was developed to meet the growing demand for reliable high precision in large production runs of complex components and is especially well-suited to the production of stamping tools and multi-cavity molds for electronics, information, and communications applications. They also excel in micro components for medical applications and watchmaking. The CUT 1000 X and CUT 1000 X OilTech deliver pitch accuracy of ±1.0 µm over 200 mm by 140 mm, and M-shape form accuracy of ±1.0 µm. The CUT 2000 X, CUT 2000 X OilTech, and CUT 3000 X deliver pitch accuracy of ±1.5 µm over 340 by 240 mm (460 by 320 mm for CUT 3000 X size), and form accuracy of ±1.5 µm. Micro Engraving Tools Sphinx solid-carbide micro engraving cutters feature sharp, positive cutting geometry that produces burr-free surface fi nishes and smooth transitions. The engravers come stan- dard with a Ø 3-mm shank and are available in a variety of angles (30/40/50/60/90°) and in two possible point geom- etries—fl at or radius-tipped. The radius cutters range from 0.0016 to 0.0039" (0.04–0.10 mm), and the fl ats range from 0.0008 to 0.0059" (0.02– 0.15 mm). The micro engrav-

ers are appropriate for work in most materials ranging from alloyed and unalloyed steels to thermosetting plastics, and even titanium. The micro-engravers join Big Kaiser’s existing Sphinx micro cutting tool lineup of pilot/spotting, high-perfor- mance drill reamers, deep-hole, and end mills. Big Kaiser Precision Tooling Inc. Toolholder Senses Machining Forces Spike is a sensory toolholder that is able to measure the forces and torque occurring during machining in real time directly at the tool where the forces originate. Data acquired are wirelessly transmitted to a receiver and attached computer for analysis and manipulation using propri- etary software. The bending moment applied on the tool during machining is shown as a function of the angle and plotted on a graph us- ing polar diagrams. Mea- surement channels include axial force, torque, bending X axis, and bending Y axis. The Spike sensory toolhold- er is positioned in between

the tool interface such as an HSK 40, 50, 63, 100, a BT 40, or CAT 40, 50 and a clamping system like a collet chuck ER 20, 25, 32, 40, hydraulic chuck, PowRgrip PG 25, grinding arbor, or Weldon, Syncro shaft adapter. Spike is compatible with an ATC. Pro-Micron USA Ph: 844-653-5316 Web site: www.pro-micron.de
